A musical bridge between Poland, Austria, and Japan – inspiring concerts at Poland Pavilion at Expo 2025

On August 4 and 5, the audience at Poland Pavilion in Osaka enjoyed two exceptional violin and piano concerts, held in collaboration with the Austria Pavilion.
“Bridge Between Cultures” is a series of artistic encounters featuring international performers that promote intercultural dialogue through music. This time, the stage of Poland Pavilion welcomed talented artists from Austria and Japan.
Julian Walder is one of the most promising young Austrian violinists. He has won several prestigious awards, including First Prize at the NYIAA – New York International Artists Association Violin Competition, the Grand Prix at Grumiaux Competition in Belgium and a Major Prize at International Henri Marteau Competition in Germany.
Japanese pianist Mayuko Obuchi is affiliated with music academies in Vienna, Salzburg, and Munich. She has won several prestigious awards, including First Prize at the Sakai International Piano Competition and First Prize at the Anton Rubinstein International Competition in Düsseldorf.
The artists presented an ambitious repertoire inspired by the musical traditions of Poland and Austria, blending classical and contemporary influences. The program included Polonaise brillante Op. 4 in D major by Henryk Wieniawski and Romanze from Albumblatt by Richard Wagner, as well as works by Béla Bartók, Fritz Kreisler, and Maurice Ravel. Carefully curated, the concert repertoire showcased both the individual virtuosity of the Austrian violinist and the Japanese pianist, and the unique synergy of their musical dialogue. The performance was warmly received by the audience visiting Poland Pavilion at Expo 2025.
The event marked another stage in the ongoing international cultural collaboration, which had previously been initiated with a concert held in cooperation with the Belgian Pavilion.
