The World Exhibition Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai is the largest promotional and economic event in the world, of which Poland has also become a part. During the six months of Expo 2025, accompanying events will be held in Poland Pavilion, presenting the wide achievements of Polish companies, regions and partners. One of such events is the Days of Polish Science and Education. From 22 to 26 April in Osaka – Poland will present the achievements of our scientists, universities and innovative research centres to the world. Particularly noteworthy is the concert of Leszek Możdżer, during which the artist will play on a unique decaphonic piano – the first instrument of this type in the world. Developed in cooperation with the Polish Academy of Sciences and filed for patent protection, it is a real revolution in the world of music. Instead of the traditional twelve-tone scale, it uses a ten-tone division of the octave, opening up completely new sound possibilities for the composer.
Leszek Możdżer’s concert is both a show of creativity and an expression of an innovative approach to art and technology. Sound experiments, the search for new sounds and the use of modern technologies in art fit perfectly into the slogan of Expo 2025 – Designing Future Society for Our Lives. It is a musical story about innovation that inspires and opens up new perspectives.
The partner of the concert is the Yamaha company, which provides two instruments for the concert, one of which will be changed from 12 to 10 octaves. The concert will take place on April 24 at the Higashiosaka Cultural Creation Hall at 6 p.m. To join this unique event, you need to book a seat – admission is free.
The decaphonic piano is a revolutionary instrument that breaks with the classical division of octaves. The ten-tone scale (10-TET) creates new timbres of sound, previously unattainable for the twelve-tone instrument we hear every day during concerts. The audience of this unique concert will hear sounds that they have never heard before in their lives.
The method of tuning the piano in the 10-TET scale was developed by Aleksander Bogucki, Paweł Nurowski, Andrzej Włodarczyk and Leszek Możdżer in cooperation with the Centre for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Leszek Możdżer – a master of improvisation, creator of unconventional sounds and ambassador of Polish culture – will be the first to present this extraordinary instrument in front of an international audience at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. His concert goes beyond the framework of an ordinary performance – it combines science, art and emotions.
