Polish Sea Day was a joint initiative of three maritime universities, as well as ecological and cultural organizations. The program featured workshops, exhibitions, debates, immersive projects, and a unique maritime-themed concert. The event highlighted the Baltic Sea as a shared resource and a source of future innovations.
The sea as a laboratory of the future
Participants in the event include the Gdynia Maritime University, the Maritime University of Szczecin, the University of Gdańsk, and the MARE Foundation. The main themes will revolve around maritime education, Baltic ecology, and the sustainable blue economy.
The workshop zone will feature a virtual tour of the research vessel r/v Oceanograf (University of Gdańsk) and an immersive experience by the MARE Foundation titled “Into the Baltic Depths”, taking participants on a sensory journey into the deep waters of the Baltic Sea.
In front of the Poland Pavilion and inside the concert hall, a sound installation entitled “Sounds of the Sea”, based on actual recordings from Polish coastal waters, will be presented.
Exhibition, conference, and debate
A visual element of the event will be the ECOMARINAS photo exhibition, prepared by the MARE Foundation. Photographs taken during a voyage on the historic tall ship STS Generał Zaruski will be displayed on specially designed exhibition boards.
A conference on marine ecology will be held at the Expo thematic pavilion, with the participation of representatives from other Baltic Sea countries’ pavilions. Experts from the Maritime University of Szczecin and the Gdynia Maritime University will present new technologies in ecological ship operations, crew training, and the use of computer validation in marine environmental protection.
The MARE Foundation will showcase specific local actions taken to protect the Baltic Sea.At the Poland Pavilion, students from the University of Gdańsk will host a debate titled “The sea in science – a past that shapes the future.”
The Maritime University Choir – Szczecin’s musical emblem at Expo 2025
One of the main highlights of Polish Sea Day at Expo 2025 in Osaka will be a concert by the Maritime University Choir from Szczecin – a group that has combined academic precision with artistic passion for over two decades. Founded in 2003 by Dr. Sylwia Fabiańczyk-Makuch, the choir has earned recognition both in Poland and abroad, performing in around 15 countries, including Italy, France, Spain, Turkey, North Macedonia, Lithuania, Malta, Ireland, Ecuador, Russia, Canada, Japan, and Taiwan.
One Baltic – one future
Polish Sea Day at Expo 2025 will not only showcase scientific and artistic achievements, but will also serve as an invitation to reflect together on the future of our seas and oceans. The Baltic Sea – a silent witness to history and a space of tomorrow – will be the true protagonist of this special day.
