EXPO 2020 is due to take place from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021. Its main theme is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. It consists of the following three sub-themes: Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability.
The organisers have made their own interpretation of the sub-themes:
- Opportunity refers to attempts to find and unlock the potential and creativity hidden in people and societies with a view to shaping a better future. The theme includes such areas as education, employment, new technologies, financial capital and management.
- Mobility focuses on a more informed and effective use of people’s mobility and the exchange of goods and ideas. The theme provides for cooperation in such areas as transport, travel, research, logistics and digital communication.
- Sustainability means life in harmony and balance with our planet. The theme envisages innovations and activities aimed at the protections of ecosystems, the effective management of resources, as well as the protection of the environment and ecosystems with the goal to alleviate and counteract climate change.
By choosing such themes, the organisers wish to emphasise that the solution to the most pressing global problems is far beyond the capacity of one country or region. As a result, it is necessary to act together, irrespective of the latitude, institutional barriers or cultural differences, in order to achieve success.
